"This single vineyard Chianti from one of Tuscany's legendary producers is the best wine Monsanto has produced since the glorious duo of 1970 and 1971. A late-released Tuscan 1985, the quality makes the wait worthwhile. It is expensive, but this is exemplary juice! A huge nose of cedar, roasted berries, herbs, and tobacco leaps from the glass with remarkable intensity. The mouthfeel is one of voluptuous, super-concentrated, multi-dimensional fruit, glycerin, and hefty alcohol. This full-bodied, spectacular Chianti is already drinking magnificently, and based on past vintages, it can be expected to improve for at least another 7-8 years and last through most of the first decade of the next century. An exceptional wine, it serves as a benchmark for what heights Chianti can attain."

"Every so often a story comes along without a beginning and an end. This is the story of a visionary family, an uncontaminated terroir, and a shared passion for the world of wine. It is the story of Castello di Monsanto, a winery that set a revolution in motion with a vision that seems to go on forever."
